What is an orphan page?

Short answer

An orphan page is a page that no other page on your site links to. That makes it very hard for visitors and Google to find.

Google mainly discovers pages through links. Does nothing link to a page? Then Google can only find it through the sitemap. And Google sees it as less important.

You fix it with an internal link from a relevant page. Or you remove the page if it is no longer needed.

Real-life example

A painter had a good page about wood rot. Nothing linked to it. After adding a link from the exterior painting page it appeared in Google.
