What is Google Tag Manager?

Short answer

Google Tag Manager is a free tool for managing tracking codes on your website. Without having to change the website itself every time.

Think of the code for GA4, the Meta pixel or Google Ads. You put them all in Tag Manager.

You also decide there what you measure. For example a click on your phone number or sending a form.

Tag Manager works together with your cookie banner. That way codes only switch on when a visitor gives consent.

Real-life example

A contractor wanted to know how many people clicked his phone number. In Tag Manager that was set up in ten minutes. Without touching the website.
