What is Performance Max?

Short answer

Performance Max is a type of campaign in Google Ads. One campaign shows your ads in all of Google's places at once.

Think of the search results, YouTube, Gmail, Google Maps and other people's websites. Google decides itself where your ad works best.

That works well if your tracking is correct. Google learns from your conversions. Do you measure the wrong thing? Then the campaign steers toward the wrong things.

You have less control than with a normal Search campaign. For small budgets a Search campaign is often better.

Real-life example

A solar panel company with good tracking and enough requests uses Performance Max next to its Search campaign. That way it also reaches people on YouTube.
