What is a conversion?

Short answer

A conversion is a visitor who does what you want. Like requesting a quote, calling or filling in a form.

The conversion rate is the share of visitors who convert. Do 200 visitors come and 4 of them request a quote? Then your conversion rate is 2 percent.

More visitors is nice. But it is often smarter to first get more out of the visitors you already have. A better button or more proof can make a big difference.

Do you actually track your conversions? Many websites only track visitors. Then you do not know which page brings in customers.

Real-life example

An installer tracks his enquiries in Google Analytics. He sees that the heat pump page brings in the most quotes. That is where he now puts his time.
