What is structured data?

Short answer

Structured data is extra code on your website. With it you tell Google and AI exactly who you are, what you do and what it costs.

A person reads on your site that you are a heating engineer in Manchester. A computer has to guess. With structured data it no longer has to. You say it in a fixed language called schema.org.

It sometimes gives you extras in Google. Such as stars, FAQs or your opening hours right in the search result. And AI can pick up your details better.

Real-life example

An estate agent puts his address, service area and reviews in structured data. Google then shows his stars in the search results.
