For many questions Google first gives a short answer itself. That answer is made by AI and names a few websites as sources. Whoever is named there gets a lot of attention.

Google picks sources with a clear answer and a trustworthy sender. A page that answers the question in the first sentence has a better chance.

In Search Console you can see how often you appear in these AI answers.

Real-life example

Someone searches for "how much does a heat pump cost". Google gives a summary and names an installer with a clear pricing page as a source.
