What is AI Mode?

Short answer

AI Mode is a Google search feature where you ask a question and get an answer in plain language with links to sources. You can ask follow-up questions like in a chat.

Normal search results show a list of sites. AI Mode writes an answer itself and names a few sources with it.

If you are a source in that answer people see your name before they see anything else. If you are not in it they click through less often.

You improve your chances with clear answers to customer questions, good reviews and mentions on other sites.

Real-life example

Someone asks AI Mode which gardener in Manchester also does maintenance. Google names three businesses with a short explanation. The gardener with a clear page about maintenance is one of them.
